COUNCILLORS have turned down a planning application from an opera singer to build accommodation for her students.
The woman, who teaches music in Ripon, wanted to develop student accommodation on land behind 67 Allhallowgate, near the city centre.
But councillors voted unanimously to refuse the application after planning officer Jane Lurcuck said the development would be too intensive and detrimental to the setting of a listed building in a conservation area.
The application was for six holiday cottages and a two-storey building for student living accommodation.
Miss Lurcuck said concern had been expressed about noise and an absence of on- site parking.
Two neighbours objected to the proposal.
