A SUPPORT group for young fathers has helped Gateshead Borough Council gain top marks in a government inspection.
The authority was given a Grade One award at outstanding level for its creative approach to community learning.
Inspectors from the Government's Adult Learning Inspectorate singled out the young fathers' group for praise.
The project worked to build confidence among new dads who were initially fearful of caring for their children.
The council was also praised for its family learning programme which supports victims of domestic violence and vulnerable women with children.
