AN equestrian show in aid of the children's charity The Yellow Brick Road made a total of £1,600 a week last Thursday.
It was organised by the BSPS Area 1A committee and held at Kirklevington Riding Centre, thanks to Mr and Mrs I Tate. Committee member Julie Gamble is employed by Barclaycard, which agreed to donate £750 under a match funding scheme.
The show was a great success with more than 250 entries and the competitors made donations on top of their entry fees, some even passing on their winnings to the charity.
All classes were well supported and, despite fierce competition and a combined age of only 18, a family duo became the supreme and reserve champions.
They were Alexandra Calvert on Duntarvie Cat's Whiskers and her brother, Nicholas, on Rillaton Jack in a Box.
The show has been running for a number of years now and, in view of its increasing success, the organisers fully intend to continue raising funds for the charity for sick children based at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle.
A spokesman said: "It is thought that this is the only show of its kind run under BSPS ruling and it is hoped that other areas may follow this example."
