A DRUG addict who burgled his brother's bedroom to get cash for drugs was jailed yesterday.
Teesside Crown Court heard that Neil Harris, 25, twice stole DVDs from his brother Richard's locked bedroom.
The court heard he had previous convictions for another raid on his brother's room and for burgling his aunt's home and stealing her video recorder.
Judge David Bryant told Harris that his previous convictions qualified him for the minimum three-year jail sentence.
Martina Conolly, prosecuting, said that because of Harris's stealing, there was a padlock on the bedroom door and only his brother and father had keys.
But while his brother was away at Christmas, Harris got hold of a key and stole eight DVDs. He stole another eight a week later.
Harris was arrested in March and he told police he sold the DVDs to buy heroin and cigarettes.
Stephen Constantine, defending, said that Harris was not a danger to the public because he stole only from his family.
He said Harris's parents had refused to give statements to the police and were willing to give him a home again.
Harris, of Fossfield, Stockton, was jailed for 877 days after admitting the burglaries in December and January.
