CHARGES against a snoozing football fan arrested when he nodded off at a match were branded "ludicrous" yesterday.
Solicitor Simon Walker hit out at the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to take dozing Middlesbrough supporter Adrian Carr to court.
At a brief magistrates' court hearing in Middlesbrough, yesterday, he said: "Mr Carr has done nothing other than fall asleep at a football match.
"I plan to write to the police, the CPS and the football club about this.
"I really think this is a ludicrous situation and I urgently invite the CPS to review it."
Mr Carr was charged with being drunk in a stadium after falling asleep as his beloved Boro side lost 4-0 to Arsenal at the Riverside Stadium.
Mr Carr, 28, of Caithness Road, Middlesbrough, had worked an early morning shift and then drunk eight pints last Sunday afternoon before dozing off while his team lost.
When a steward managed to wake him at the end of the game he was arrested for being drunk in a sporting arena.
Mr Carr's season ticket was taken off him and returned to the club, which will decide whether he gets it back.
Mr Carr said: "I am absolutely gutted. I am a diehard Boro fan and want to see them do well. But the way this whole thing has been handled makes me feel so bitter."
The case was adjourned until September 8.
