WORRIED residents in the village of Marton near Kirkbymoorside, have raised £6,000 to build a footpath along a dangerous road to their community hall.
The 150 villagers took a year to raise the money after the County Council highways department said it could not afford to do the work.
County Councillor John Fort, the council's executive member for environmental services, opened the footpath and presented Marton with a silver trophy to be awarded at its annual show
