SINGLE parents looking for work are being offered help.
A team of lone parent advisors are to work from Job centres in Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington, Redcar and Middlesbrough.
They will also be in high streets and shopping centres, distributing leaflets and information on finding work.
Steve Davidson, district manager of Tees Valley JobCentre Plus, said: "Many lone parents have made the transition into employment as a result of the support and guidance available from JobCentre Plus. However, there are many more who may be able to access this support. That's why we are going out and about to let people know that we are there to help them every step of the way.
"We can offer help to get on courses to boost confidence, or update skills or carry out job searches and offer advice on childcare options.''
He said: "Once a job opportunity has been spotted, we can help people improve their interview skills and even provide a grant for clothing for an interview."
The advisors can also speed up applications for tax credit, arrange for housing benefit and council tax benefit to continue for a couple of weeks and provide financial help until the first wage is received.
The advisors will be at Stockton Market and Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, in Hartlepool, on Wednesday, at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington, on Thursday, Redcar High Street on Wednesday, September 10, and in the Captain Cook Square, Middlesbrough, on Thursday, September 11. They will be available from 10am to 3.30pm on each day.
