Hathaway and Cope Stokesley League, Saturday, August 23.
Ennis Square SC 10 v 1 Black Horse
ESquare SC start the season as leaders showing good form with a 2-1 win in midweek against Kings Head FC and Saturday saw a relatively easy win against last season's basement club. With two early games postponed Black Horse FC may have suffered from a lack of match fitness as the in-form Ennis Square took a 4-0 half time lead and finished the game 10-1 winners. Black Horse FC however did manage to snatch a solitary consolation goal late in the game. With seven goals from the attacking pair of Wayne Gent and Jon Kirk both players having put in outstanding performances. Michael Dexter added two goals to his tally but the goal of the match came from Lee Brady who hit a tremendous shot from 40 yards.
Stokesley SC 0 v 5 Thornaby Mandale
Two home defeats in a week for Stokesley saw them go down 3-0 on Wednesday against St Mary's College OB and Saturday saw a 5-0 defeat at the hands of last season's champions. Thornaby Mandale FC took a 2-0 half time lead as Stephen Lambert crossed from the left hand side with Bradley Murray connecting well heading the ball past Gary Cains the Stokesley keeper. Stephen Lambert took the second goal hitting a low shot into the far corner. Mike Bulmer had missed an open goal that may have put Stokesley back in the game and sterling work from Nathan Jackman as he man marked star striker Andy Dyson, however Mandales domination continued in the second half with a Andy Dyson shot taking a deflection past the helpless keeper. An accurate shot from John Gorman gave keeper Cains no chance and the game was wrapped up when Andy Dyson scored his second of the game following good link up play with Stephen Lambert.
Coulby Newham FC 4 v 0 British Steel Sports
Debut team British Steel Sports performed well in the first half of this game against Coulby Nerwham with striker Jason Downing dropping deep to distribute some good balls to the flanks that were catching the Coulby defence out. The halftime scoreline was stalemate as both clubs had come close to scoring. In the second half Coulby Newham stepped up a gear and the deadlock was broke on 65 minutes, Craig Carey taking the ball past a defender to unleash a terrific shot from 18 yards. Goal number two came in the 80th minute with some great work from Michael Gilling who took on three British Steel players before laying the ball back to Craig Carey who calmly placed the ball past the British Steel keeper. Richie May made it 3-0 scoring from the penalty spot having been dragged back in the box and game was complete when Richie May added a second to his tally as he took the ball into the box shooting from a tight angle with the initial shot being saved May scored from the rebound.
Thornaby Vill. 2 v 2 Woodmans Arms
Woodmans Arms scored the quickest goal so far this season after only 10 seconds of play. From the kick off Thornaby Village passed back to their defence only to be foiled by a quick responding Michael Dalton who nipped in to score. Roger Deaves addressed the balance shooting past Sharpe the Woodmans keeper when he judged a high bouncing ball that confused the Woodmans defence. Woodmans took the lead for the second time in the game when Michael Dalton scored his second from inside the goal area. It was Roger Deaves who finally levelled the score for Village following a well worked throw in from Mark Casey and Dean Melville flicking the ball on to Deaves.
Linx Hemlington 0 v 0 M'brough PO
New club Linx Hemlington are standing 2nd in the League having put in some fine performances. Saturdays game was to prove a great test as they took on last seasons League Cup Winners. The game finished stalemate but could have gone either way with some good link up play from both clubs only to see the end results fade out with good goalkeeping and poor finishing. In the second half Linx Hemlington came close when Michael Spain hit a terrific volley over the top of the cross bar from a corner and at the other end Linx Goal Keeper Dean Simpson made a terrific save following a quick Posties counter attack. Post Office were reduced to ten men for the final 20 minutes of the game but the game finished 0-0.
PJS FC 0 v 0 North Skelton Village
PJS FC and North Skelton Village FC shared their first points of the season as both clubs failed to take the initiative. North Skelton Village FC did come close to breaking the deadlock with some good efforts on goal from Ben Crooks but the best chance of the game came late with just 2 minutes to go and following some intensive PJS attacking play, Village goalkeeper Dave Cairnes quickly released the ball to left back Luke Harris who linked well with Dominick Tokarwski, with Tokarwski running the flank and making a perfect cross for Peter Coates to head the ball onto the post.
