Permission has been granted for a new detached house to be built in a medieval village.
The site is within the historic core of Low Ellington, near Masham.
A report from Harrogate Borough Council's heritage unit said aerial photographs indicated earthwork traces of former tofts and crofts, along with a field system.
Despite the area's history, a planning application for outline permission to build the house has been given approval by the planning committee.
Heritage experts have advised that archaeological observation and recording should be carried out while the construction work takes place.
Planning officer Mike Warden said the home would be built in a small gap among a semi-circle of houses and other traditional buildings facing the village green.
