John Webster, 31, of North Marine Road, Scarborough, was charged yesterday with two counts of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14.

The case, heard by South Durham Magistrates, sitting in Darlington, was transferred to Teesside Crown Court, on a date to be decided. He was granted unconditional bail.

HARASSMENT CASE: Alison Ferrie, 35, of St John's Close, Stockton, Teesside, was charged with two offences under the Protection from Harassment Act appearing at South Durham Magistrates Court. She is accused of causing ex-partner James McKerrow and his girlfriend Sally Burns to fear that violence would be used against them. The case was adjourned until October 28 when she will be committed for trial to Teesside Crown Court. She was granted unconditional bail.

FITS THE BILL: Actress Trudie Goodwin, best known as Sergeant June Ackland, in ITV's The Bill, is joining Jonathan Baker, from Redcar, east Cleveland, to climb Ben Nevis in aid of the National Osteoporosis Society. The three-day trek, starting Friday, is expected to raise more than £10,000.

THEFT CHARGE: A woman accused of stealing almost £9,000 from Railway Pensions Management did not enter a plea when she appeared before South Durham Magistrates yesterday. Linda Cookson, 53, of Cambridge Avenue, Washington, Wearside, will be committed for trial to Teesside Crown Court on October 28.
