Television presenter Andy Kluz offered to lend a hand during National Volunteers' Week in the historic town of Richmond.
He and a dozen volunteers rolled up their sleeves to attack a graffiti-covered yard leading off Richmond Market Square.
The clean-up, in Banks Yard, was organised as part of the Richmond Pride Initiative, led by Mayor Stuart Parsons.
The clean-up was also held in conjunction with the Richmond Volunteer Bureau, as part of a nationwide volunteering initiative.
Mr Kluz said: "It was hard work but great fun, thanks largely to the interesting group that took part. We never stopped talking and there were many complimentary remarks from passers-by!
"I like to think we made a real difference to a little corner of the town."
Richmond Volunteer Bureau organiser Alison Metcalfe said: "This is one of the many voluntary groups in Richmondshire, all working together on various community projects and having fun at the same time."
Anyone interested in joining Richmond Volunteer Bureau can contact Mrs Metcalfe on (01748) 822335.
