A NEW football tournament attracted hundreds of youngsters and raised £450 for a youth education project.
More than 40 teams took part in the first five and seven-a-side competition at Bishop Auckland College on Saturday. The event was organised by Stephen Yorke, the college's technician, and proved so popular that it could become an annual event.
All the money raised is going to the Network Challenge, which is a specially designed programme for young people to gain confidence, have fun and gain valuable qualifications.
Finalists were: Aged 15 to 16, Bishop Auckland College A 2 Sporting Shildon 0; Age 12, 13 and 14, St Mary's B 1 Waldridge Park 0; Age 10 and 11 league, St Mary's Whites 13 points Fulwell Fitness 12 points; Age 8 and 9, Spraire Lads 1 St Mary's Blues 0.
