DEAD flies and a moth were found in the kitchens of a leading Teesside hotel, a court heard yesterday.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has taken action against the Regency Hotel, in Redcar.
A jury at Teesside Crown Court was told yesterday that an environmental health officer found dirt, grease, mould and dead flies in the kitchens of the hotel, on Coatham High Street.
The hotel's management was told that the level of cleanliness was a matter of concern, said Yvonne Taylor, prosecuting.
Andrew McKenna, who carried out two inspections of the kitchens, said that he found a dead moth and cobwebs on top of a kitchen door, dirty floors and greasy surfaces.
He produced 16 digital photographs, including shots of uncovered food stored under a ceiling motor unit in a walk-in chiller.
The hotel's owners, Plusbonus Limited, pleaded not guilty to failing to keep premises clean and in good repair and condition on May 16 last year.
The hearing continues
