SOAP schemer Jonathon Wrather shed his hard man image when he joined Bishop Auckland shoppers to celebrate a store's £1m new look.
The former Coronation Street actor, who played bad boy Joe Carter, signed autographs and chatted with customers at Kwik Save, in Watling Road, yesterday morning. Fan Paula Binks, from Watling Road, took along three-year-old Corey. She said: "The whole family are Corrie fans. It is the best soap."
The store is one of the first to be transformed in the company's chain of 686 stores.
Manager Ian Forster said: "Our store is among the first to undergo the Kwik Save regeneration process aimed at giving stores across the country a more modern and fresh feel.
"Each new concept store has been designed to look like a market street where customers can enjoy the right choice, the right price and the convenience of being round the corner."
