THE NORMANDY Veterans' Pilgrimage Club is staging a fundraising Forties' charity night next month.
Members raise money to assist Second World War veterans to visit the Normandy landing beaches for the annual D-Day commemorations on June 6.
But they are planning a larger than usual event next year as it is the 60th anniversary of D-Day, and is believed to be the last time many of the ageing former soldiers will be able to make the trip.
The next fundraiser for the Durham-based group is at Meadowfield Workingmen's Club, on Friday, September 19.
Entertainment will be provided by the Fairmead Concert Party, from Whitby, who specialise in the songs and dances of the 1940s.
Partygoers are invited to get into the spirit of the occasion by wearing Forties' style fancy dress. Tickets, costing £3.50, are available by telephoning (0191) 384 0343, or 378 0324
