THE Kwik Save store in Consett was the first business to win a certificate for keeping the streets tidy.
The Consett North Partnership set up the Keep Consett Clean scheme to tackle litter problem.
Member Mary Westgarth worked with Derwentside District Council and businesses in Middle Street, asking shopkeepers to take a more active role in keeping streets tidy. They were so impressed with efforts by Kwik Save that they gave store manager Scott Wallace their first Keep Consett Clean certificate.
The next award will be made in October.
