COMMUNITY groups across the county are celebrating a cash windfall of more than £125,000 for several projects that will help people of all ages and abilities.
Twenty-four groups across Hambleton, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Harrogate and York were successful in recent bids for National Lottery grants.
Hundreds of youngsters are likely to benefit from the £4,880 Awards for All handout at Bedale Junior Football Club, which attracts players from Leeming, Northallerton and Masham.
The club already provides sports and educational opportunities to 230 boys and girls between the ages of five and 16, focusing primarily on football but covering all aspects of health.
Andrew Dobson, who has been chairman of the club for three years, said: "Some of the money will be used to develop the skills and qualifications of volunteer coaches and administrators by sending them away on short, intense courses.
"We are also looking to deliver football coaching to more girls of all ages, as well as organise training sessions with disabled children in the area.
"We are very much for developing a child's capabilities, not just developing a winning team. Our coaching focuses on quality of play and personal improvement."
Awards across Hambleton totalled almost £21,000, with money helping to provide disabled access and toilets for the Women's Institute in Romanby, and to provide audio equipment to help in talks given by the Friends of Kiplin Hall.
More than £10,000 has been awarded to three groups in Richmondshire, with the district's cricket development group able to use its grant to provide a forum so that people of all ages from the surrounding area can discuss cricket issues.
Groups in the Harrogate district celebrated winning more than £35,415, with three groups securing the top amount of £5,000.
The Ripon St Cecilia Society will use its award to promote its orchestra, attract a wider audience and new musicians.
Of the £19,430 presented to groups across the Scarborough area, Filey Museum, a local folk museum of fishing and agricultural heritage, will use its £1,500 to employ a part-time worker.
Community groups interested in the Awards for All scheme are asked to call 0845 600 2040.
