A NEW football tournament attracted hundreds of enthusiastic youngsters and raised £450 for a youth education project.
More than 40 youth teams took part in the very first five and seven-a-side competition at Bishop Auckland College on Saturday. The event was organised by Stephen Yorke, the college's technician, and proved so popular that it could become an annual event.
All the money raised from the event is going to the Network Challenge, which is a specially designed programme for young people to gain confidence, have fun and gain valuable qualifications.
Waldridge Park Junior Football Club of Chester-le-Street reached the final of the Under 14s but lost out 1-0 after a determined battle by both sides to St Mary's B team of Bishop Auckland
