I have just got back from a pilgrimage to the Assisi of Francis and Clare and the Rome of Peter and Paul.
One highlight was celebrating Mass at the tomb of Saint Peter. It was very moving to be so closely in touch with a close friend of Jesus. Another highlight was the joyful Mass we celebrated in the Basilica of the Twelve Apostles where I was ordained 40 years ago. Our prayer was that we would continue to be challenged by the great Roman vision: "The joy and the hope, the grief and the anguish of the people of our time, especially those who suffer in any way, are the joy and the hope, the grief and the anguish of the followers of Jesus.
