THE BSJA Area 12A recently joined forces with Stockton Borough Council to produce the biggest show jumping competition in the North-East at Preston Park, Stockton.

The Mary Reveley Racing Club 138cm second round produced a five-pony jump-off over Walter Taylor and Brian Candler's course. It was won by the racehorse trainer's grandson, James Reveley, on Will Palmer's Glencoes Trick Or Treat.

James also took a Festival ticket with Spirit of Boadicea, while Loftus rider Daniel Neilson was fifth on Guinness Special ahead of Barnard Castle rider Adam Valks on Golden Fortune.

Adam's older brother Brad reached the second jump-off in the Squibb and Davies National Foxhunter second round to finish third.

Nine-year-old Helen Smallwood, from Trimdon, was fourth in the Flannigan Family 128cm second round with Metric. Pippa Allen (Cappagh Misty ), Laura Neilson (Sligo Lucky and Micklow Rapidash) and Alice McCullough (Double Whammy) took the Festival tickets.

Pippa and Duncrynes Jungle Bunny came out tops in the 46-starter Graveleys small pony championship ahead of Great Smeaton rider Alice McCullough on Dickens II.

They also filled the top two places in the Smallwood 128cm open, while Adam Valks and Golden Fortune won the first day's small open.

Kirsty Porter, 14, from Stockton put in a brilliant performance to clinch the Preston Park Area 12a junior novice championship on the nine-year-old coloured mare A Patch of Colour. The pair completed a hat-trick by winning two 1m opens, while Charlotte Bolster on Movie Time scored a hat-trick in the Preston Park novice qualifiers and took the Area 12A points trophy.

The senior Area 12a novice championship went to Bishopton rider Katherine Leak on Patricia II. Runner-up was Joanna Andrews on the five-year-old Hanson II, who won the Great Leighs Newcomers.

Daniel Neilson from Loftus was runner-up in the final day's North East open on Micklow Madness, just pipped by international rider Natasha Sewell on Meadowcroft Minstrel, formerly produced as a novice by Andrew Pybus from Hurworth.

Joanna Tanfield from Thornaby put in a good performance on the first day with the eight-year-old Stainsby Sponeck, winning the 1.25m open and the Haven Horse Feeds £200 Open, just pipping Northallerton's Paul Barker on Temple Guess What and local farrier John Brannen on Crievestone.

Barker won the Campbell McDearmid £200 Open on Temple Ryefield and was also third with Temple Guess What, besides taking the runner-up spot in the Geoffrey Robinson speed with Waterford Lad.

Emma Wright, based at Crook, won the 1.20m Members Cup High Amateurs qualifier on Westbourne Everytime ahead of Scott Brash on the Barker-produced Temple Another What and Thirsk rider Sarah Russell on the six-year-old Gamble On.

Fred Peart, who has been sponsoring for 20 years, watched Sarah win the speed stakes on the eight-year-old grey mare Mistrato ahead of John Brannen's Crievestone and Amy Wall on her prolific winner Ferndale Summer Breeze.

Neil Robinson from Stokesley was runner-up in the Equimax Discovery second round on Hatherall Legend, with other local Festival tickets going to Sophia Cuthbert (Mystic Poet) and Sarah Russell (Hale Bop).
