A TEENAGER died after the car he was travelling in collided with a lamppost.
Lee Taylor, 19, of Conyers Avenue, Chester-le-Street, was a front seat passenger in a Rover car which hit a lamp-post on the A195 Northumberland Way and Inkerman Road roundabout near Chester-le-Street.
Mr Taylor died at the scene. The driver, a 21-year-old man from the Washington area, received minor injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, where he was treated for bruising and shock. He was released later the same night.
Police are appealing for witnesses of the accident, which happened at 10pm on Monday.
