A PILOT scheme has been launched to help people threatened with homelessness.
The independent service has been set up by the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in Chester-le-Street and the district council, to provide people with help and information that could prevent them losing their homes.
The CAB has appointed a housing advice worker for the scheme, who will deal with people referred by Chester-le-Street District Council.
People can also approach the service themselves for information.
Richard Owen, CAB manager, said: "This is an exciting pilot project which will enable us to empower people who might potentially be faced with homelessness to make informed choices and take appropriate action.
"Our advice is always totally independent and impartial with due consideration given to the individual's dignity."
The CAB is situated on 1a Front Street and is open between 10am and 3pm on Tuesdays and 10am and 12.30pm on Fridays
