Railings around a town's war memorial will prevent Remembrance Day poppy wreaths being blown away by strong winds.
The Redcar branch of the Royal British Legion is helping to pay for the railings.
Branch secretary Eric Howden said: "It will be nice to see an improvement.
"It was long overdue, but financial support was required to complete this project."
The £900 project was funded with £750 from the West Redcar Single Regeneration Community Chest and £150 from the legion.
Dormanstown and Redcar branch of the Merchant Navy Association requested that names of local seamen killed in action should be added to the cenotaph.
To ask for names to be included, write to Mr Howden at the Royal British Legion, 92-94 Coatham Road, Redcar.
