THIEVES have stolen children's games and videos worth hundreds of pounds from a small charity's base.
Burglars broke into a clubhouse that provided a lifeline for children in a run-down part of Newton Aycliffe, on Tuesday evening.
The Burn Hill Children's Club consisted of a converted garage where children could play on games consoles, listen to music and watch videos to keep them off the streets.
The club was set up by Stephanie May earlier this year, when she refurbished and carpeted her garage, making it a safe environment for the children to play in.
Police said the garage door was forced open and thieves stole CDs, video tapes, a Dreamcast games console and a mongoose BMX bike.
Officers have fingerprinted the scene and the investigation is continuing.
Mrs May is appealing for help to replace some of the stolen equipment. She can be contacted on 07719 636453.
Anyone with information is asked to call Newton Aycliffe Police on (01325) 314401.
