A COUNCIL'S £1.4m green recycling centre will be opened on Tuesday.
The centrepiece of the facility at Sandhills, off Walbottle Road, Newburn, Newcastle, is a building which will use green technology to save energy and recycle materials.
It includes grey water recycling, the generation of electricity through photovoltaic panels, solar panels to heat up water and an underground heat source that takes heat from deep within the ground.
The building will also catch surplus water which is collected in a holding tank for use in composting.
It will be run by the City's Parks and Countryside Training (PACT) team, which provides environmental education while improving the countryside and green spaces around Newcastle.
Trainees are instructed in forestry, horticulture, environmental conservation, arboriculture, building, painting and green waste recycling
