Two arts projects start tomorrow as part of Hartlepool's New Deal for Communities.
Drawing Together is a weekly programme of workshops run by local artist Peter West. It begins at Grange Road Methodist Church Resource Centre and runs between 10am and noon. Also starting are Egyptian dance classes at the Belle Vue Sports and Leisure Centre in Kendal Road, between 1.30m and 3pm. Both are free. Call (01429) 523440 for more information.
24-HOUR SCALEXTRIC: A 24-hour Scalextric event will continue today to raise money for Butterwick Children's Hospice. It is being held at the Black Swan Inn, in Thornton-le-Moor. Anyone interested in sponsoring it is asked to ring Lee Huck on 07973 725207.
SECURITY SHOW: Security systems will be on display at the region's largest crime prevention exhibition at Hartlepool's Historic Quay. Crimex will be opened by Cleveland Chief Constable Sean Price on Wednesday. The free one-day display is held from 10am to 4pm. SPEAKING OUT: Suspended MP George Galloway will address an anti-war, anti-privatisation and anti-racism rally at St Mary's Centre, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough, 7.30pm, tomorrow. Other speakers will include Salma Yaqoob, chairwoman of the Birmingham Stop the War Coalition and Nick Wrack, national chairman of the Socialist Alliance.
WALRUS TUSKS: Prehistoric axes from Ireland, an ancient Condor skull and a walrus tusk are on show in a display at Hartlepool Art Gallery. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 5.30pm and admission is free.
MUSIC NIGHT: A music night at the Bridge House Hotel, Catterick, raised £582 for Butterwick Children's Hospice on Teesside.
COMPETITION WINNER: Jade Scott, 12, from Thornaby, won a £10 gift voucher at a Design Your Dream School Uniform at Asda in Thornaby.
