CHAMPAGNE was served at a nursing home as one of its residents celebrated her 100th birthday.
Family, friends and staff at Leeming Garth nursing home, in Leeming Bar, raised a glass to Elizabeth Armstrong on Saturday to toast her on her special day.
Also joining the party were her great-grandchildren Maya and Ella Wilson.
Mrs Armstrong's daughter Marjorie Dewey, who lives in Ainderby Steeple, organised the celebrations and said her mother coped very well.
"She is a remarkable lady and 100 is an incredible age to reach. I just don't know what her secret is," said Mrs Dewey.
"She received dozens of cards, including one from the Queen, and many of her relatives came to visit."
Mrs Armstrong is from a family of 11 children who were raised in the Dales.
She married blacksmith Henry Armstrong when she was 20 and they moved to Ugthorpe, near Whitby. The couple had four children, two of whom sadly died.
She moved to the care home four years ago and still enjoys a game of dominoes with some of the other 44 residents.
"She's a real chatterbox and a character," said Lisa Valmonte, who nurses Mrs Armstrong. "It was a lovely day and everyone enjoyed it."
