A CHARITY cricket match is to be played to help a North-East woman suffering from a crippling disease.
Ann Teasdale, 42, from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, had to have a leg amputated after contracting the rare condition Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS).
She faced losing her other leg but now has some hope after an appeal in Newton Aycliffe raised £30,000 to send her to the US for revolutionary treatment.
Workers from two local companies will face each other in a charity cricket match on Sunday to raise money for her appeal.
Security and access control specialist Cam-Tec, at Heighington Lane Business Park, and bathroom equipment manufacturer Roman Limited, on nearby Aycliffe Industrial Estate, will stage the sponsored game at Heighington Cricket Ground.
Rowan Willans, of Cam-Tec, one of the organisers, said: "We read about Ann Teasdale's remarkable courage and when we came up with the idea of a charity cricket match between our two firms, she was an obvious choice."
The match begins at 2pm and there will be a barbecue and bouncy castle. Admission is free but donations will be welcomed. Businesses or individuals willing to offer sponsorship can contact Rowan on (01325) 319998.
