A DREDGER to keep the harbours of Scarborough and Whitby, in North Yorkshire, free of silt will be launched by the mayor of Scarborough, Councillor Freda Coultas, tomorrow.
The converted Dutch river barge, which cost £750,000, is to be named after the former dredger, Sandsend.
Captain Bill Estill, the harbourmaster, said: "It is a special craft with an ingenious hinging mechanism that allows it to split in half to carry out its dredging work."
