EVERYTHING is coming up roses for one of the biggest agricultural shows in the region.
For the first time in its 130-year history, Stokesley Show, in North Yorkshire, will welcome Teesside Rose Society, adding 18 rose categories to what is already recognised as one of the best horticultural competitions in the North.
Two years after the foot-and-mouth outbreak, the show also welcomes back goats and sheepdog trials, the only categories missing last year when a modern-day attendance record of more than 18,000 people was set.
The show takes place on Saturday at the climax of the four-day Stokesley Fair, from Wednesday to Saturday.
Show secretary Alan Weighell said: "Each year we try to add something new to the show, and the participation of Teesside Rose Society will strengthen our reputation.
"We will have one of the biggest number and variety of marquee categories, with everything from floral art to farm produce, and pet rabbits to racing pigeons."
As well as the usual array of livestock, the main ring will host demonstrations of horsemanship from the Knights of the Black Phoenix.
Music will be provided throughout the day by the Ever Ready Brass Band, while a touch of Parisian glamour will be added by the 112-key Preston Gavioli organ and its entourage of can-can dancers.
Entrance to the show costs £5 for adults, £3 for concessions, and £12 for a family ticket.
