RAILWAY enthusiasts are offered a chance to view the first new engine to be built in Britain for 50 years.
The North Eastern Locomotion Preservation Group will meet on Friday to let people look at the A1 Tornado engine, at Hopetown Works, in Darlington.
The free event will also give visitors the chance to view the Blue Peter, a steam locomotive brought to the town from the North York Moors, and a Q6 goods engine.
Engine expert Paul Hutchinson will give a talk.
Group spokesman Brian Howe said: "Most of our meetings are held at The Ladle, in Middlesbrough, but on this occasion we are trying to tell everyone what's going on at the site.
"We could also do with a few more volunteers to help with restoring engines."
The event starts at 7.30pm at Darlington Railway Museum, in North Road. People are asked not to park inside the museum gates.
