DOZENS of workers are waiting to find out if their jobs are under threat after proposals to close a nursing home were revealed.
Management at Summerdale, a residential home for the elderly, in Snows Green Road, Shotley Bridge, near Consett, admitted this week that the privately-run site is to close "in the near future".
Owner Teresa Langdon would not give a date or reason for the closure.
But she said full details would be revealed next week, after all the residents and their families had been fully informed.
Run by Shotley Park Homes for the Elderly, the large Victorian building has capacity for up to 35 residents.
It employs staff on almost a one-to-one basis to care for them.
It also has physiotherapy facilities and its own GP.
Staff have declined to comment saying they had been told not to talk to the Press.
