A NEW community bus service is proving to be just the ticket for a neighbourhood.
A weekly volunteer-manned minibus shuttle service has been organised to take people who do not own a car from their homes in west Middlesbrough to out-of-town supermarkets.
According to Joan Ford, chairwoman of the West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Trust, which is overseeing a £52m regeneration programme for the area, dozens of residents have been rushing to book their bus seats.
"This is a very worthwhile idea for the community. I would urge anyone who is struggling to get to the shops to get in touch,'' said Mrs Ford.
"The service will also give some residents who feel they are isolated in west Middlesbrough a chance to get out and may be make new friends.''
Two volunteer drivers have come forward, but a third is needed.
The vehicle travels around the neighbourhood picking people up for £1. It will drop passengers off at a supermarket for about an hour and then bring them home.
