SHOPPERS came away from the stores with a little extra in their trolleys and baskets yesterday - tips on how to save their lives.
Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade gave visitors to the Cleveland Centre, in Middlesbrough, advice and leaflets on fire safety - and an opportunity to invite them round to carry out a home check risk assessment.
There have been 172 casualties and 1,377 house fires in Middlesbrough alone, in the past five years.
As The Northern Echo revealed earlier this week, the brigade plans to visit all 230,719 homes on Teesside - even though it could take as long as four years to complete.
