A TEESSIDE student is in the running to win the National Young Designer of the Year award.
David Lister, 17, from Stockton, qualified for the final by winning a local heat in Sunderland. He won with his design of two harness units which would make carrying an injured person over difficult terrain more comfortable by utilising the strongest area of the body for bearing weight, the shoulders. The final of the Audi-sponsored event, involving 26 students, will be held at the Baltic, Gateshead, on Saturday.
SAFE HOUSES: Security built into homes on the Bellway Homes Mickledales development at Redcar has won a Secured by Design Award.
DESIGN AWARDS: Entries are invited for Redcar and Cleveland Council's second Design Awards scheme. Residents, developers and architects are invited to nominate architectural, art or landscape projects completed between March 15, last year and April 12, this year. The competition aims to raise the quality of design in the borough.
LIGHTS FUND: There will be a table top sale on Saturday, between 10am and 4pm, at the Community Centre, in Saltburn, to raise funds for the town's Christmas lights. The lights will be switched on on November 29. There will also be a car boot sale on Sunday from 10am until 4pm. To book a space call (01287) 624 046.
SCHOOL REUNION: There will be a school reunion for Loftus Rosecroft School class of '79 at Carlin How Club tomorrow, from 7.30pm to 11pm. The cost is £2.50 to be paid at the door.
COFFEE MORNING: The League of Friends of Stead Memorial Hospital, in Redcar, is holding a coffee morning with stalls at Marske Leisure Centre on Saturday from 10am. Tickets cost 40p each.
TOWN'S HISTORY: Vera Robinson will be giving an illustrated talk on Redcar's history at Redcar Central Library on Tuesday, from 7pm to 9pm. There will be books and leaflets on sale. All proceeds will go to the town clock appeal fund.
