An author best known as the creator of Horrible Histories helped launch a museum guide yesterday.
Terry Deary took delivery of the full-colour Beamish Guide Book at the museum's 1825 railway.
Copies of the book arrived by Georgian steam train, where it was loaded on to a Dales pack pony, ready for distribution around the museum.
The 64-page guide was developed by Beamish staff, in particular by senior keeper Rosemary Allen and keeper of resources Jim Lawson.
It was designed and printed by Jarrol Publishing of Norwich and contains a wealth of images and fascinating facts to enhance the Beamish visit.
Terry Deary, one of the best selling children's authors in Britain, has more than 130 titles to his name - including Gorgeous Georgians and Vile Victorians which describe the times Beamish portrays.
He has been associated with the museum for many years and has served as a trustee on the Beamish Development Trust for the past three years.
