Junior round-up: Billingham Pumas came away from Ice Sheffield with a point from a 5-5 draw against Sheffield Swamp Frogs in the English U12 North B League.
After a 15-4 victory at Grimsby Ghosts last week Pumas gained a very valuable point.
James Moss put Pumas ahead with a powerplay strike in the third minute and three minutes later Swam Frogs drew level. In the sixth minute of the middle period Pumas went ahead again through Josh Goodrick.
Sheffield went 3-2 ahead after goals at 23.23 and 24.44 but Billingham were soon level when Joe Watson was on target 30 seconds later.
In this end to end encounter Swamp Frogs struck twice either side of the second interval for a 5-3 advantage at 32.09. Pumas dug deep and two minutes later Moss cut the deficit. Pumas were pushing forward and created a number of chances. Watson got one through to level the match with four minutes to go.
No further goals and the match finished all square.

In the English U12 North A League both Sunderland Cherokees and Whitley Bay Arrows were in action, but both failed to gain a point. Whitley Bay came closest to taking points at Hillheads against Blackburn Sparrowhawks.
The game was entertaining and produced 22 goals with the visitors coming out on top 12-10. Blackburn led 2-0 after only 42 seconds and by the end of the first period Arrows had taken a 3-2 lead. Liam Brown, Josh Maddock and Daniel Bentley were on the mark in a spell of three minutes.
Nine goals came in the middle period as Sparrowhawks equalised each time Arrows took the lead for a 7-7 scoreline. Kate Ord, Maddock, Brown and Andrew Cook on the mark for Whitley in the second period.
Cook (2) and Brown both completed their hat-tricks and Blackburn tied the scores after Whitley went ahead. Cook's third put Whitley 10-9 ahead with five minutes remaining. Later after 68 seconds Blackburn took an 11-10 advantage with two goals in eight seconds at 41.08.
Arrows took the time out only for Sparrowhawks to make sure of victory with another goal at 43.59.

Sunderland Cherokees slipped to a 5-1 defeat at Sheffield Lasers. The home side went to an early lead only for Cherokees to draw level when short-handed through Callum Davies. The first period was edging to a close and a 1-1 scoreline only for Sheffield to strike twice to go into the break 3-1 ahead.
Cherokees conceded a penalty early in the final period which Sheffield took advantage of an scored for a 4-1 lead. Cherokees had their chances but Lasers' netminder Declan Ryan, a close season signing from now defunct Altrincham ice hockey club, made a series of fine saves.
There were six minutes remaining when Evie Roberts came off to be replaced by Mark Watson in Cherokees net. Sheffield wrapped up the victory with a fifth goal with a couple of minutes left.

Billingham Wolves got their season off to a good start by a 3-1 win at Telford Trojans. Wolves came from a 0-1 deficit to earn the victory. Dean Tonks put Telford ahead after 53 seconds for the only goal of the first period.
Within two minutes of the start of the second period Wolves had drawn level through James McCabe. It was nip and tuck between these teams throughout the game. Robert Dowd put Wolves ahead for the first time in the match at 49.41 and two minutes later Liam Telfer increased Billingham's lead.
For the final period Telford's U16 players left to travel for their league game at Nottingham.

Sunderland Chiefs and Billingham Bombers met at the Telewest Arena with the Wearsiders coming away 5-4 winners. Chiefs had to thank netminder Stephen Wall for his heroics to give them the points. Wall has been signed by Chiefs on a two-way contract with Newcastle KBS Vipers and will play for Chiefs when not required by Vipers.
The only goal of the first period came in the fifth minute when Paul Shanks put Chiefs ahead. Scott Ward levelled the tie three minutes into the second session before Chris Brown and Jonny Heslop were on target to put Chiefs 3-1 ahead. Two powerplay goals in 37 seconds from Martin Lewis and Andrew Thornton brought the scores to 3-3 on the 37 minute mark.
Just 21 seconds later Chiefs went ahead again with a Shaun Black marker. The two-goal margin was restored at 58.23 with a Kristian Lloyd strike.
Lewis's second of the game 18 seconds later cut the gap to one. Billingham called a time out with 11 seconds to go in the game. Nothing was gained as Chiefs secured two hard earned points.

Whitley Warriors overcame Kingston Jets 8-2 at Hillheads. A brace from Andrew Tindale and a Raymond Haslam strike gave Whitley a 3-0 first period lead. Kingston hit back with two powerplay goals. In the middle session Jets netminder Karl Holmes kept Whitley out in the second period turning away 19 shots.
After 32 seconds in the final period Lee Baxter made it 4-2 and in the process Holmes got hurt. He continued until 45.20 when Warriors led 7-2 with Baxter (2) and Robert Wilson the scorers. Replacing Holmes Phil Miles was beaten at 57.45 by Baxter for his fourth goal of the game.
