Durham HQ are the early pace setters, remaining unbeaten after three matches following their excellent 2-1 win at Langbaurgh.
Jason Malcolm gave Langbaurgh the lead only for Tony Insall to equalise almost straightaway. In the second half, debutant Paul Bruce scored to give HQ all the points.
Sedgefield were surprising 5-3 winners over last season's runners-up, Newcastle West. Neil Baker was a hat-trick hero, with Andy Turner and Marco Fantin scoring a goal apiece. Koby Cohen, Barrie Joiyce and Dave Oakes scored for Newcastle.
Easington finally played their first match and found the wait worthwhile as they beat Frankland 3-1. Neil Robinson, Keith James and Andy Fowler got the goals.
Stockton remained unbeaten after sharing four goals with Darlington. An own goal gave Stockton the lead, but the home side struck back, with goals by Fred Wood and Kevin Wilson, to lead at the interval. Matt Reeves equalised for Stockton in the second half, but Darlington were left to rue their missed chances
