AN NHS initiative is looking for volunteers in Langbaurgh.
The Expert Patient Programme recognises that patients with long-term health conditions often have a wealth of knowledge about the management of their illnesses and become experts in their own right.
Langbaurgh Primary Care Trust (PCT) is seeking individuals with experience of chronic illness who would like to train to help fellow long-term sufferers.
Successful volunteers will become part of a team who will help make the difference in the lives of other patients.
Steve Wilkinson, senior trainer for the Expert Patient Programme in the North-East, said: "Those of us involved feel very excited about the benefits the programme can bring to patients.
"Many patients that have already been on courses have reported it has been extremely helpful to them and so want to use what they have learned to help others."
The programme includes workshops covering areas such as problem-solving, dealing with emotional stress, relaxation techniques, improving communication with others, healthy eating and exercise.
An information session for anyone interested in finding out more takes place on October 3 from 2pm to 3.30pm at Langbaurgh PCT headquarters, in Bow Street, Guisborough.
