ONLY the superfit need apply for the latest challenge to be thrown down by a charity.
Runners are needed to take part in the world's most demanding marathon in the Sahara in April next year.
The Marathon des Sables - Marathon of the Sands - involves running 148 miles across Morocco, carrying all supplies and equipment except for tent and water.
Yorkshire Cancer Research has developed a scheme allowing competitors to take part for free, simply by raising the minimum sponsorship amount.
The basic package, where participants pay for their own equipment and food, is £4,875, of which £2,925 goes to Yorkshire Cancer Research and the rest covers flights, accommodation, race entry fee and technical and medical back-up during the race.
Charity spokesman Steve Joyce said: "Be under no illusion, for most people the fundraising is as big a challenge as the event itself."
