PATIENTS and the public were given a valuable insight into hospital life at an open day event in Northallerton.
The doors of the Friarage Hospital's day unit were opened to the public to demonstrate just what work it carries out.
The unit helps patients by carrying out surgical, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures while they are sedated, under general or local anaesthetic. Patients go to theatre, have their treatment and return home the same day.
Visitors looked round the unit, learnt about what it does and met and chatted to the dedicated staff who work there.
Staff were on hand to demonstrate health checks and advance life support techniques and visitors had the opportunity to take a look into the workings of an operating theatre.
A raffle on the day also raised a total of £355 to buy equipment for the benefit of future patients.
