POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault after a man suffered face and head injuries.
The incident happened between 10pm and 10.30pm last Friday at the junction of Westgate Road, Guisborough, near to Bar 44.
The assault involved a number of people.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault to come forward and, in particular, a motorist who stopped his car in Stokesley Road, Guisborough, and spoke to police officers about the incident. Anyone able to help is asked to call PC Jackie Fieldhouse on (01642) 302026.
GALA DAY: Saltburn Cricket Club Gala Day, cancelled on August 10 due to bad weather, will take place on Sunday from 1pm to approximately 5.30pm at the cricket club, in Marske Mill Lane, Saltburn. There will be live acts, face-painting, an outside bar, quad bikes, funfair, car boot sale, craft sales, miniature railway rides, a cake stall, afternoon teas, tombola and raffle. Admission will be £1 for adults and will be free for children.
FUNDS RAISED: A concert by singer Suzannah Clarke at Sir William Turner's Almshouses raised more than £200 which will be used towards repairs in the 17th Century chapel. Every place in the 100-seat chapel was taken for the concert as well as a futher 40 in the first-floor gallery. Pianist Philip Thomas, who performed at last month's Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, accompanied the singer.
VOLUNTEER CHANCE: Child Call North-East, in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, is looking for people with an awareness of young people's issues to work for its confidential freephone service. Applicants should be aged 21 or above, able to commit to working four hours every week as well as attending monthly meetings and be able to work at evenings and weekends. RURAL RAMBLE: Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's countryside wardens will lead a circular ten-mile Roseberry Ramble from the Flatts Lane Country Park at Normanby. Walkers will set off at 10am on Wednesday and are expected to return by 4pm. The event is free but walkers are requested to bring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing.
