A LANDLADY is appealing for centenarians to come along for a free drink at a newly refurbished pub.
In an echo of the old pub joke 'centenarians who bring their parents can drink for free,' The Centenary, on the Glebe Estate, Norton, Stockton, really is offering a free drink to anyone who is 100-years-old.
New landlady, Philippa Waters said the refurbished pub opened on Monday.
She said: "Because of the 100 connection with our name, we thought it would be a great idea to celebrate our re-opening by asking centenarians to come for a drink."
Owner the Sizzling Pub Co closed the pub for four weeks for refurbishment. It has been given a conservatory, open-plan lounge and a bar.
Ms Waters said: "I'm really excited about taking over as landlady of The Centenary, and moving back into the area, as I am originally a Stockton girl. I will also be planning lots of community and charity-related events."
Anyone who is a 100 years old who takes their passport or other official form of identification to The Centenary will be entitled to a free drink until Monday, October 6.
