MODEL apprentices have been chosen by a skills council to encourage other youngsters to follow their example.
The Learning and Skills Council, Tees Valley has recognised 24 trainees as Champion Apprentices to go into schools and talk to future school leavers.
Nick James, director of strategy and communications with the council, said: "The future of the Tees Valley depends on the success, achievement and determination of our young people.
"It is known that peer group influence is a strong factor in young people's decisions.
"We have chosen these Champion Apprentices to be role models to their peers because we believe they can help other young people to realise their own potential for success.
Modern Apprenticeships are available in a host of different sectors, including engineering, business, retail, chemicals and the service industry.
The scheme was launched at Middlesbrough Football Club's Riverside Stadium yesterday.
