THE inaugural North East All Breeds Dairy Calf show has been hailed as a huge success.

Almost 40 handlers and more than 85 calves were entered by 30 exhibitors for the event at Thirsk auction mart.

The show was organised by the North-East Ayrshire Club, North-Eastern Holstein Breeders' Club, North-East of England Jersey Club and North-East Shorthorn Club.

The first interbreed handling title went to Shorthorn handler Wendy Young, Churchroyd, with Jersey handler Rebecca Jarvis, Priestcar and Braimber, in reserve place. Holstein champion handler Adam Liddle, Dalesend, received an honourable mention.

The interbreed calf championship went to Ayrshire champion Marleycotes Bronwyn 2, a May 2002 daughter of Horizon Ranger Red, owned by Hexham breeders G Baynes and Son of the Marleycotes herd. Upsall Lee Mae (Comestar Lee) from R E Dickson of Nunthorpe took the reserve for the Upsall Herd.
