PLANS to bulldoze a seaside hotel and build 42 flats in its place look set to go ahead.
Councillors had asked the businessman behind the scheme to demolish the Regency Hotel in Coatham Road, Redcar, and build two blocks of flats, to modify the plans.
Residents were worried that the development would result in a loss of privacy and block out light.
Concerns were also expressed that knocking down the largest hotel in Redcar would do nothing to promote the town as a tourist centre and that hotel accommodation was needed, rather than more flats.
Now, applicant Malcolm McKee, whose company owns the hotel, has resubmitted the application after modifying the scheme to take residents' concerns into consideration.
To date, the council has received no further representations from residents.
Council officers are again recommending that councillors approve the scheme, with eight conditions, at their meeting on Wednesday.
