A LAW firm worker is to take part in the Great North Run to enable two Durham students to join projects across the world.

Probate executive Alan Oliver, who works for the Durham firm Blackett, Hart and Pratt Solicitors, will be running his 14th consecutive Great North Run on September 21.

His fundraising will help twins Joanne and Helen Jones, 17, who have recently been selected and assigned places with the Project Trust to work in remote and rural areas of China and South Africa. The sixth formers, who are studying at St Leonard's Comprehensive School in Durham, need to raise £7,700.

Mr Oliver, from Newton Hall, Durham, said: "It is vital that local communities are aware of individuals' good will in raising money for charities.

"It is important that volunteers are given our support to help children and adults in third world countries, many suffering from HIV, a chance to make something of themselves and learn.

"Joanne and Helen's work will be a truly rewarding experience and something we should all be supporting."

The Project Trust sends volunteers across the globe to work in various situations in some of the world's poorest countries.
