Northallerton Mowbray Golf Club has presented cheques for £1,000 to the charities Chopsticks and the Alastair Bullen Aromatherapy Fund.

The money was raised by a successful tournament at Bedale Golf Club.

TWIN ADVICE: Families expecting more than one baby can visit York Hospital today for a multiple birth information day from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Representatives from the health and voluntary sector will be on hand at the event, at the Child Development Centre, to offer advice.

MONSTER STORY: An unusual take on the story of Nessie will be played out in Ripon this afternoon. A puppet monster with a cut-glass accent dodges the scientists' mini-submarines at Ripon Leisure Centre from 2.30pm. Tickets for the show, which is part of the Ripon International Festival, cost £6 for adults and £4 for children.

BOOT SALE: A car boot sale in aid of the West Witton playing fields will be held on the site tomorrow from 8am. Refreshments are available and charges are £5 for a car, £7 for larger vehicles.

Concert date: Muker Brass band will be holding a concert at Middleham Church on Friday, September 26, at 7.30pm to raise funds for the Wensleydale Tournament of Song. Tickets are £5.

SECURITY MARKS: Motorists are reminded that Richmond police and the RAC are offering free security marking for cars. The session will be held at Tesco, Catterick Garrison, from 10am to 4pm today.

PIANO MUSIC: The Europa Piano Trio will be holding a concert in St Columba's Church, Topcliffe, near Thirsk, on October 4.

ARMY FAIR: A fair with about 40 stalls is to be held at Vimy Barracks, Catterick Garrison, on October 1, in aid of SSAFA Forces Help and St Teresa's Hospice, in Darlington.

ROAD CLOSED: Part of Piper Lane, in Thirsk, will be closed to traffic from Monday to Friday for the maintenance of a water main. Access for pedestrians will be maintained.

BULBS GALORE: The committee of Thirsk in Bloom is planning to hold a mass planting of crocus bulbs over the weekend of September 20 and 21. Volunteers to help with the planting are being sought. Contact (01845) 522224.
