A MURDER investigation is under way after a teenager was stabbed to death.
The 16-year-old, discovered with multiple stab wounds, was taken to Newcastle General Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said the attack happened at about 9pm on Saturday, in Gilly Street, in Byker, in the city.
Police yesterday named the teenager as Jonathon James Thompson, of Byker.
Officers have arrested two local youths, who last night were still helping police with their inquiries.
Detectives have set up an incident room and are appealing for witnesses.
