A CHURCH opening to the public following a £200,000 refurbishment.
Sacred Heart Church, in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, is encouraging people to visit next Sunday to view the building after Mass, at 10am.
The interior has been redecorated and made lighter, while the stained glass windows have been restored to their original clarity. Mosaics have been cleaned and there are displays featuring life and work in the parish.
The church, built in 1932, also has an impressive range of flower displays.
Father Derek Turnham said: "We think that people in Middlesbrough are not aware of what a gem of a church they have got here and we want to let them know.
"It is a Catholic church in the centre of town and we have just spent £200,000 tidying it up so we want people to see what we have spent it on.
Fr Turnham said he hoped the open day would also help increase the churches congregation of 500.
There will be cream teas and a variety of stalls during the open day.
